Secular Oratory - Young Adult Group

The Secular Oratory is a community of young adults which meets every Tuesday evening at 7:30 for prayer, reflection on the Scriptures, discussions, and good company.

The meetings typically commence in the Lady Chapel of the church, where we gather to read aloud and meditate on the Word of God, consisting of the Mass readings for the forthcoming Sunday. After a brief period of silent meditation, we discourse on the meaning of the sacred text and how it calls us to respond to the Lord. Following this, we conclude with the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Angelus, and the seasonal Marian Antiphon. We always conclude the evening by returning to the Parish House for a time of fellowship, building relationships with one another based on our common bond of friendship with Jesus Christ

So, what is a ‘Secular Oratory’?

A community of laypeople who meet to pray and support each other in the spiritual life at an Oratory. From the very earliest days of the Oratory in Renaissance Rome, St. Philip Neri believed that fraternity was crucial to growing in holy cheerfulness. In the words of St. Philip Neri: “Give me ten men really detached from the world and I have the heart to believe I could convert the world with them.”
